Wokingham asks two kinds of driving from you. The old town centre has narrow streets, tight parking and busy crossings, while the roads around it carry fast commuter traffic towards Reading, Bracknell and the M4. Droober matches you with a local instructor who drives both every week and plans your lessons around the test centre you will use.

Meet your Wokingham instructor
Jameel holds DVSA approval as a driving instructor and has taught in Wokingham for 15 years. He teaches manual and automatic and covers Wokingham, including Reading and surrounding areas.
“Wokingham learners get comfortable in the town centre quickly, then struggle with speed on Finchampstead Road and the A329(M) slip roads. We build that up in stages, so the faster roads feel normal before test day.”

The Wokingham roads you practise on
The town centre
Peach Street, Broad Street, Denmark Street and Rose Street are narrow, with parked cars, loading bays and busy pedestrian crossings. You learn slow-speed control, close observation and when to give way.
Faster local roads
Finchampstead Road, Molly Millars Lane and Barkham Road, the B3349, carry heavier traffic at higher speeds. You practise junctions, roundabouts and keeping a safe gap.
New estates and distributor roads
Estates around Emmbrook, Woosehill and the south of the town keep adding new roads and roundabouts. You learn to read new layouts, which tests your observation more than any memorised route.
The A329(M) and dual carriageways
The A329(M) links Wokingham to the M4 at Junction 10. Learners can drive on motorways with an approved instructor in a dual-control car, so once you are ready, your instructor can add motorway practice to your course.
Commuter traffic towards Reading
The A329 towards Winnersh and Reading gives you rush-hour practice in queues, lane changes and busy junctions.
Where you take your test
Wokingham has no driving test centre, and neither does Bracknell. Most Wokingham learners book at Reading, in the south of the town near the A33. Learners in the south of the borough sometimes book Farnborough instead. Check availability at both when you book.
Your instructor builds your later lessons around the roads near your chosen centre. If you test at Reading, read our guide to Reading test centre roads and the common mistakes learners make in the Reading test.
Every test follows the same format: an eyesight check, two vehicle safety questions, around 20 minutes of independent driving and one manoeuvre. The DVSA explains each part in its practical driving test guide.
Prepare for your test on Reading roads
Mock test with an ex-examiner
A mock test of about an hour and a half on Reading test roads, run by a former DVSA examiner. You get detailed feedback on the faults that would fail your test. £249 (Prices checked October 2026). Book a mock test.
Practical Test Preparation
Three hours with a Droober instructor and a dual-control car in one day for £240. Use it for practice before your test, a warm-up on test day, or to take your test in the instructor’s car. It suits you if you learned with family or at another school. The package does not include the DVSA test fee.
How many lessons do you need?
The DVSA average is around 45 hours of lessons plus 22 hours of private practice. Your total depends on how often you drive and how quickly you settle on faster roads.
To practise at home, ask a parent or partner to add you to their insurance as a learner. Your supervisor must hold a full licence for three years and have reached 21, and the car needs L plates front and back.
