Save on longer courses

The hourly cost falls as your course gets longer. A 10-hour course works out at £65 per hour, while a 48-hour course works out at £57 per hour. If you sit between two courses, the longer one gives you more practice for a smaller hourly price.

How many hours a day you drive

Most learners drive two to four hours a day on an intensive course. You and your instructor agree on the daily pattern after your assessment lesson, based on your progress and your diary.

As a guide, a 20-hour course at three hours a day gives you about seven days of driving, spread over one to two weeks. Your course hours count time behind the wheel. Pick-up and drop-off time is included if the pick-up point is 20 minutes away from central Reading.

Before you start

To take an intensive course with Droober, you need to:

• Be at least 17 years old.
• Hold a valid UK provisional driving licence.
• Not hold a current driving disqualification.
• Read a car number plate from 20 metres, with glasses or contact lenses if you need them.

You can start lessons before your theory test. You need to pass the theory test before you can book your practical test, so pass it early if you want a test date at the end of your course.

You need to pass the theory test before you can book your practical test, and the pass certificate lasts two years. Book your theory test through GOV.UK.

Practical test waiting times change from month to month. Check availability at the Reading test centre before you choose your course length.

Booking your test under the 2026 DVSA rules

You book your own practical test on GOV.UK. Since May 2026, no instructor or school can book it for you, and you should pay only the official fee of £62 on weekdays or £75 on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

When you book, add your Droober instructor’s reference number. The booking system then checks that your instructor is free on that date.

You can change your booking twice. After that, you cancel and rebook. You can only move your test to one of the three nearest centres to where you first booked.
